Happy Birthday KISA

Yesterday was KISA'a 44th birthday. So on Saturday without warning him, I told him to put our suitcase in the car and directed him to drive south. I whisked him away to a 1 bed penthouse in Airlie Beach for two nights. I only booked it saturday morning as I did not know if he could take Monday off (his actual birthday) until that morning. Also the weather had been a bit dodgy the days before. as it was short notice I actually got a very good deal if we stayed two nights.
We had a great time. The aprtment was a pleasant surprise. I knew it would have a view, but it was better than expected. And bigger than expected. We could live in this!

I packed bubbles, and nibblies and fixing for the first night's meal. Airlie is only a 50 minute drive away, and we arrived just in time for sundowners.

This is the separate bedroom, before we made it untidy.

And the balcony where we spent most of our time. Why not with the view.

Sunset vista, the sunset was off to the left.

Next day we had a leisurely breakfast at a cafe by the beach and went to the shops for some necessaries, then took a drive to Shute Harbour. It was a beautiful day with a steady but gentle breeze. See the 3 masts tilting over at an angle by the wharf? That is a ship that sunk at the wharf last week. They are still trying to figure out why that happened.

Another shot from the lookout at Shute Harbour. It is a magnificent harbour.

As is this one. There were some houses in the hills with fabulous views. Looked them up on the web, the ones for sale, million dollar views they are!

After returning to Airlie we went for a walk with a Cold Rock icecream along the boardwalk. This is looking back along the foreshore.

I asked KISA to smile for the family, he did this and wonders why I won't delete it!!!

We followed the boardwalk around to the marina and wandered about among the boats. There are some VERY BIG boats in there.

Then we meandered back to search out somewhere to go for dinner. We settled on a seafood restuarant then headed off to check out the new sailing club. It was just after 3pm. I suggested we get a nice cool beer and sit out and watch the sea and the boats for a bit. They have a grazing menu on a Sunday afternoon, and it all looked pretty good, so we thought we would try one. We got a bottle of wine to wash it down with. So we started with some garlic stuffed bacon wrapped mushrooms. They were so so good.
One more tasting plate wouldn't hurt so next we tried the salt and pepper calamari with chilli mayo. Oh my oh my.

The peking duck spring rolls were calling and the bottle of wine was finished. So we decided to order another one, get the spring rolls and cancel dinner. Best decision of the day. The sun started to set.

Holding onto the rail out of necessity here. We were on the second bottle by now!

The spring rolls were heavenly, and we figured one more plate. So we ordered the lamb meatballs in tomato sauce. We were having a lovely time.

It was nearly 8pm when we got back to the room. It had been a lovely sepindipidous afternoon, and we have found a great place to meet friends and family half way from Mackay.

Woke early the next morning to find a mist over the water and that a cruise ship had arrived in the night. Early morning view to the west of our balcony. You can just make out the mist over the water in the next bay.

I don't know which ship this is but it was a big one. They ferried the passengers off to the marina, where I guess they headed off to the reef or the shops or something. We checked out of the apartment and headed home for a lazy afternoon and lunch in town.
After a long day at work, Anna made KISA a chocolate mudcake with chocolate ganache and a sparkler on top!

Happy Birthday Sweetie, hope you had a great day.
