Terrible Creek

We went camping on the weekend to Terrible Creek. Only it wasn't terrible at all, it was wonderful! In fact I would go as far as saying it was the best camp spot we have had yet I think.
A couple of hours before we left our two resident backpackers arrived, A and E. (Any resemblence to Accident and Emergency, entirely coincidental) A is the older sister of our resident backpacker from 18 months ago, that long time readers may remember..
So we dragged them along too... It is a magic spot near the Bowen River. The water was running fast and we had rapids in front of our spot. It sounded like the ocean.

Soon after we set up, the sun went down. We were settled in with a drink by then, with the fire going.

The inevitable sunset shot..

Next morning, we rose early, well KISA and I did, the tent to the side of us remained firmly shut till after 8am!

We had a lazy day pottering around the camp, and chatting to our fellow campers. We stirred ourselves late afternoon to go for a little walk. Pooh enjoyed his outing.

Looking up the river at sunset.

A&E and I beside the rapids. A tractor inner tube would be fun here in the summer. Though our fellow campers told us there may be crocodiles in the river.

A&E in the wild Australian bush.

KISA, Pooh and I. The camp grounds at sunset.

The girls taking a shot at sunset. Not sure what this mountain is called but it looked great in the early evening and mornings.

We roasted a chicken in the camp oven for dinner. It turned out really nicely. I had good intentions of taking an after shot, but it was also after a few glasses of wine so I forgot. Sorry. The veges went in the other camp oven. They turned out well too, but the coals could have been hotter as they didn't brown as nicely as we would have liked.

We enjoyed a glass of wine or two while the roast and veges were cooking. We put them on a separate fire so we could have the main one blazing. It got very cool once the sun went down.

Nice toasty fire.

Firelight is the best light.

For those who rose early, there was a mist over the water. It looked like it was steaming hot.

Our neighbouring campers. T works with KISA and told us all about this secret spot. We are very grateful, as it will be a firm favourite. We shared a fire and a few drinks on the first night. They love fishing and spent the weekend throwing a line in. The sun coming up behind the mountain. KISA getting the fire restarted for breakfast. Girls tent still firmly shut. They missed the misty morning. While we waited for them to surface, we went for a walk to the amenities. We bring our own ensuite usually but have a rule that we walk to the facilities for no 2s. This was a 300 m walk at least. They were rustic, but functional. The hot water system. First light a fire under the tank. Then go have a cup of tea, and breakfast. Then return for your shower. I love the open air roof and the plant growing in.

The loos worked were clean and had paper. We shared this one with a green frog or two. Which gave E a start.

The vanity unit. All luxury here in the bush!

A&E got down to the strenuous part of the day.

They were exhausted! To be fair we were being almost as active.

This little red dragonfly came to call and stayed a while to have his photo taken.

We started to pack up around 11 and were home by 4pm. Settled quickly back in at home and wound up the weekend with a nice relaxing sunset spa.

Our neighbouring camper friends had given us a huge barramundi fillet from one of the fish they had caught in the river, so we BBQd it and had it for dinner.

It's a hard life.
